Green Book
« เมื่อ: เมษายน 05, 2010, 03:43:48 PM »
I have heard all the stories about guys getting bikes confiscated if caught riding without a green book. Are they true? If that happens, can you get the bike back?  I see many HD's for sale on this forum and I see most do not display plates, so probably are not registered. What is the cost to get a green book?

Thanks in advance........miss my old 84 shovelhead low rider.........getting itchy now here.......

The correct legal in Thailand must fully document everything you can drive on the street with a need to retain. But you see that is sold in this website. You can import only document you will need to make the document several steps, such as the tax works.

Over 100 views on this topic and save one, no one has an answer to this question.......makes me think that buying one of these unregistered Hogs on this site is a VERY risky business.......even at those prices. The old saying "if it looks too good to be true, it probably is" comes to mind......

Hi Bro, I would suggest you to buy bike that came with book then you won't have any headache. Yes, Thai law can do many zigzag way but not for farang. You will pay more to get them back home.

Those bikes are selling in this forum most of them are unregistered yet. Price to get a book at this moment 95k-120k up to your bike cc. and 4-9 months wait to get the book. Back to what I suggest you buy the registered one.

Good luck and enjoy the countryside.

Can anyone relate your personal experiences in obtaining a green book?  The good, the bad and the ugly parts....

Hi CDNinKS,
As P' Lobster told you, you should buy registered vehicle if you don't want to get trouble when riding.
Now it's not easy as previous to get your bike back if you have only invoice and custom tax receipt.

The process to gets license plate are as follow.
1. Invoice and Custom Tax receipt - You should buy from any seller who can provide these documents.
2. Excise Tax - Pay this tax for assembling your bike from parts.
3. TISI Document - Send your bike for testing and gets paper from Thailand Industrial Standard Institute.
4. Green Book and License Plate - All documents above must be provided for registration to Department of Land Transport.

Not everyone can do by themselves to get through all processes. So, just pay to the agent and let them do all for you.

Weird but this is the way of this country.
Nothing much we can do but we are trying to make it better.

Ride Safe  :)

Hi. I bought mine(94 FLSTN) last year with the book.
When the book had my name in it we went to the bank!
In 10,000 miles in 10 months and the few times I have been pulled over, I have never been asked for or been checked for vehicle documentation.
I have not been pulled over for 6 months and I believe they are hands off Harleys as they never know whose ridding it.
Just that they have a lot of money and maybe power to set up a transfer to the back of Ubon-itchy-arsehole.

When I bought my bike from Chang Freeman he gave me the business card of the agent who did all of the paperwork. They were very professional, never went over a deadline, picked up and delivered the bike back to meand didn't need all of the money up front (85000). I wish I had known that at the beginning, I could have started the process sooner. They were based in North Bangkok.

I think that the law has changed since then. Before you paid more money depending on the size of the bike ie 400cc 55000 baht, 1600cc 85-90000 baht. But, now I think any bike over 400cc is a flat rate of 65000 baht.
Of course I could be wrong, thats what I've heard around.
