Rent a bike in Thailand with insurance ;) or to buy a used Harley in Bangkok/CM

 I have been planning to travel in Thailand with a bike. I got good news from my friends last week, that the road are mainly in good shape in Thailand. I am visiting Thailand for 3 weeks in Jan/Feb next year to participate in a wedding in the north, and I would like to ride a bike Bkk-CM-Bkk. Is it wise, if possible,  to rent a bike with insurance, or shall I just buy one?  Where in Bangkok can I buy a used HD or Honda?
