เกจ์มาตรวัดรถ สามารถแสดง Fault Codes ใน ECM ได้ (Diagnostic Trouble Codes หรือ DTC)
1.Ignition off
2.เปิดปุ่ม engine run switch ไป run
3.กดปุ่ม Odometer reset ค้างไว้
4.บิด Ignition switch ไปที่ ignition แล้วปล่อยปุ่ม Odometer (จะมีอักษร P,S และ C ปรากฎ)
5.แต่ละอักษรหมายถึงหมวดของปัญหาที่เกิดขึ้น….ตัวอักษรที่กำลังกะพริบอยู่หมายถึงหมวดที่เราจะเช็ค ถ้าจะเลื่อนไปหมวดต่อไปให้กดปุ่ม Odometer หนึ่งครั้ง (จาก Pไป S ไป C และกลับมายัง P เป็นต้น)
6.การจะเข้าไปเช็คFault Codes ในแต่ละโหมด ให้กดปุ่ม Odometer ค้างไว้ 5 วินาที และหากมี… Fault Codeจะโชว์ขึ้นมา ให้ปล่อยปุ่มได้ และหากกดปุ่ม Odometer อีกครั้ง Fault Code อื่นก็จะโชว์ขึ้นมา (หากมี) และถ้าไม่มี Fault Code คำว่า “None” จะแสดงขึ้น
7.จด Fault Code ไว้
8.วิธีตรวจสอบว่า Fault Code นั้น ว่าเป็น Current (กำลังเกิดขึ้นอยู่) หรือ Historic (เคยเกิดขึ้นในอดีต แต่ Code ค้างอยู่) ให้ Clear Codes ออก โดยขณะที่ Fault Code โชว์อยู่นั้น ให้กดปุ่ม Odometer ค้างไว้ จนกว่าคำว่า “Clear” ปรากฏ แล้วบิด Ignition switch มาที่ Off
9.Start รถ แล้วดับเครื่อง แล้วทำการ Check Code ใหม่อีกครั้ง หากยังมี Code อยู่ แปลว่า Code นั้น Current แต่หากไม่มีแล้ว แปลว่า Historic

ok ครับ เท่าที่ผมอ่านๆมาเรื่อง codes และเข้าใจคือ เอาความหมายของ Current กับ Historic ก่อน......Current คือ ปัญหานั้นยังคงเกิดขึ้นอยู่จนถึงปัจจุบัน และ Historic คือมันเคยเกิดขึ้นในอดีต แต่ทว่าปัจจุบันไม่ได้เกิดแล้ว (แต่ไม่ได้แปลว่าอนาคตจะไม่เกิด) คำถามคือแล้วพอเรารู้แล้วว่ามันคือ Current หรือ Historic เราต้องทำยังไง? ก็ต้องดูครับว่า Code นั้นมันคืออะไร แล้วเรา ok กับระดับปัญหาของมันรึเปล่า ยกตัวอย่าง Code B1121 เป็น Code ของระบบไฟเลี้ยวซ้าย ถ้าเช็คแล้วว่ามันเป็น Historic ก็คือแปลว่ามันเคยรวนมาครั้งนึงหรืออาจจะช่วงนึงในอดีต อาจเป็นเพราะปลั๊กไม่แน่นหรือเริ่มๆจะเสื่อมสภาพหรืออะไรก็ตาม แต่ตอนนี้มันก็ยังทำงานได้อยู่ แล้วถ้าเรารับได้ว่าระดับปัญหามันก็แค่ไฟเลี้ยว ก็ Clear มันออกไปโลด ไว้รอตอนถึงกำหนดนำรถเข้า Service หรือรอระบบมันเสียจริงๆ แล้วค่อยเปลี่ยน หรือถ้าไม่สบายใจจะเปลี่ยนเลย ก็แล้วแต่

แต่ถ้าเป็นปัญหาที่จริงจังหน่อย เช่น Code P0264 เป็น Code ของเรื่องหัวฉีดหลัง อาจจะฉีดมากไปหรืออะไรก็แล้วแต่ (รายละเอียดเรื่องความหมายของแต่ละ Code กับรายการที่ต้องเช็คอยู่ในคู่มือการซ่อม Service Manual) แต่เราทราบแล้วว่ามันคือปัญหาเกี่ยวกับหัวฉีด ส่วนตัวผม ถึงแม้จะเป็น Historic แล้ว clear code ออกแล้ว ผมก็จะไปหาช่างอยู่ดี

ส่วนวิธีเช็คว่า Code นั้นๆเป็น Current หรือ Historic ก็อยู่ที่โพสแรกข้อ 8 กับ 9 นะครับ
